Revealing intimate details of her life as a socialite, the former Mrs Gucci recounts the shocking tale of her explosive relationship with ex-husband Maurizio, from their fated meeting, fairy-tale wedding and the nightmare that followed. The documentary Lady Gucci: The Story of Patrizia Reggiani is an in-depth look into the real woman behind one of the Italian fashion industry’s most famous crimes. Patrizia’s story also features in the movie House of Gucci, which won several Screen Actors Guild Awards. When Discovery asked VSI to provide a US English voice-over for the Italian documentary, we found ourselves falling down the rabbit hole of glitz and glamour in this captivating true crime story.
One of our trusted Italian-into-English linguists translated the documentary, drawing on their own knowledge of the fashion industry to adapt the dialogue, and in such a way that English-speaking audiences would be immediately engrossed in Patrizia’s astonishing tale. While the script was being proofread by a separate Italian-English linguist to ensure the accuracy of the translation, our casting team discussed the names of potential actors who could evoke the emotions of the characters in this intensely passionate story of love and murder.
We worked closely with our long-standing client Discovery, offering them a selection of voices to choose from and suggesting which actors would be best suited to embody the characters. Discovery approved eight voices from those we provided and signed off on the English script. The actors then headed to the studio to record each of their parts.
The recordings went smoothly, with our cast producing performances that conveyed the glamour and prestige of the Italian fashion scene, unveiling the shocking revelations surrounding a crime that has intrigued people all across the world.
